Zenyasa® is an accessible, mindfulness-based movement practice that helps cultivate musculoskeletal balance, nervous system regulation, and deeper self-awareness. The practice has been carefully designed with alternating class themes that collectively strengthen and stretch every major muscle group in a balanced way.
Zenyasa® is a place to move, breathe, and return to yourself. Rooted in the simplicity of Zen and the intelligence of mindful movement, it is a practice that invites you to slow down, pay attention, and reconnect with the quiet steadiness beneath the noise of daily life.
At its heart, Zenyasa® is a contemplative movement system. Each class begins with seated meditation, creating a spacious pause before the body begins to move. From there, we move through Opening the Gates — a gentle, joint-mobilizing ritual that awakens sensation, invites ease, and encourages the free flow of breath, energy, and attention.
As the practice unfolds, movement becomes an extension of awareness. Slow, intentional sequences build strength, stability, and mobility without forcing or straining. Postures are approached as pathways rather than goals — each phase meaningful, each transition an opportunity to practice presence and kindness toward the body.
The class centers around one of the Five Elements — Earth, Metal, Water, Wood, or Fire — each reflecting a different quality of energy and a distinct set of physical patterns. These themes, inspired by traditional Chinese medicine, guide the strengthening and stretching of specific muscle groups and meridian pathways, bringing both structure and depth to the practice.
Beneath all of this lie the Three Foundations of Zenyasa®:
Zenyasa® is not something you perform — it is something you experience.
It is a way of inhabiting the body with gentleness, intention, and curiosity.
A way of strengthening without aggression.
A way of softening without collapse.
A way of meeting yourself, moment by moment, with clarity and compassion.
Zenyasa® group classes are taught in four 12-week semesters — Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter — offering a steady, seasonal rhythm for learning and deepening your practice. Each semester is divided into two 6-week terms:
Term 1 → Weeks 1–6
Term 2 → Weeks 7–12
Zenyasa® is offered through two complementary series: Zenyasa® Foundations and Zenyasa® 5-Elements. Most students begin with Foundations to learn the core philosophy, pacing, and structural elements of the practice that are not re-taught in the 5-Elements series.
Both Foundations and 5-Elements are taught twice each week at different days and times. Students select a primary class time, with the option to attend the alternate class or use the replay if they miss a session.
Students enrolled in a semester membership may attend multiple classes per week, allowing for deeper integration and continuity of practice.
Short breaks occur between semesters. When major holidays fall within a semester, students simply attend the alternate weekly class or follow the replay — supporting a steady progression without disrupting the arc of the practice.

Zenyasa® is designed for people who value slow, mindful, embodied movement and want to understand why they are doing what they’re doing — not just follow along.
This practice is especially well-suited for students who:
Zenyasa® may not be the right fit if you’re looking for fast-paced vinyasa flow, high-intensity workouts, or drop-in style classes without continuity.
Zenyasa® classes are guided rather than led, allowing students to move at their own pace, listen more deeply to verbal cues, and stay grounded in their internal experience. The teacher remains primarily in an observing and guiding role, which makes it easier to see each student clearly and offer cues based on what is actually happening in the room.
For new students who may wonder how it works without watching the teacher, most are pleasantly surprised by how naturally they can follow a guided practice without visual demonstration—often finding that this approach helps them feel more embodied and less pressured to perform.
New students typically discover that:
When visual support is helpful, we use it with intention. A student volunteer may be spotlighted to demonstrate a posture or transition in real time, offering a relatable example rather than an idealized form. We may also occasionally gather around the screen for a brief conceptual teaching moment—reviewing a page from a Zenyasa® resource or highlighting the elemental patterns behind that day’s sequence—before returning to the mat for embodied exploration.
This guided approach is designed to help you feel steady, safe, and deeply connected to your own inner experience—whether you are brand new or returning to deepen your practice.
To support a steady, embodied learning experience, the Zenyasa® series follow these guidelines:
Zenyasa® Foundations
Zenyasa® 5-Elements
This structure maintains clarity, supports progressive learning, and honors the somatic pace at the heart of Zenyasa®.
Zenyasa® Foundations is the ideal starting point for anyone new to the method. New students are strongly encouraged to begin with Foundations I and continue into Foundations II to complete the full introductory arc of the practice.
Whether you have years of experience with yoga, are returning to movement after time away, or are completely new to mindful embodied exercise, this series offers a slow, spacious introduction to the core elements of the practice.
Foundations is offered as two sequential 6-week courses:
Foundations I (Weeks 1–6)
• Twice-weekly guided movement classes (75 minutes)
You’ll learn the core elements of the Zenyasa® method, including breathing practices, seated meditation, Opening the Gates, Mountain Flow, Sun Salutations, and accessible strengthening sequences. Emphasis is placed on pacing, interoception, and the Three Foundations — Mindfulness, Skillfulness, and Goodwill.
Foundations II (Weeks 7–12)
• Twice-weekly guided movement classes (75 minutes)
You’ll be introduced to the Five-Element framework in a gradual, educational way. Each week highlights one element, reinforcing alignment, breath, and internal awareness while deepening your understanding of how elemental themes shape Zenyasa® sequencing.
Many students choose to complete both Foundations courses consecutively, while others repeat one or both terms for continued integration at a supportive pace.

Zenyasa® 5-Elements builds upon the foundations of the practice and offers a deep dive into the Earth, Metal, Water, Wood, and Fire themes. While some elements include flowing sequences, others emphasize functional strength, stability, and deliberate, non-flow-based movement.
Classes are taught in a spacious 90-minute format, allowing time at the beginning of each session for breathwork, centering, and a comprehensive warm-up, followed by a full exploration of each elemental theme and an unhurried cool-down and relaxation at the close.
Term 1 (Weeks 1–6)
• Twice-weekly guided movement classes (90 minutes)
You’ll move through all five elemental themes over the course of the 6-week term. Themes alternate across the two weekly classes, so students who attend both sessions have the opportunity to explore two distinct elements each week.
Term 2 (Weeks 7–12)
• Twice-weekly guided movement classes (90 minutes)
You’ll repeat the elemental cycle, allowing patterns to become more embodied and intuitive. Movement feels more integrated; breath settles into natural rhythm; awareness deepens.
Special Sessions
Weeks 6 and 12 may include posture clinics, mobility work, alignment refinement, or focused inquiry into specific elemental themes, depending on the needs of the group.
Zenyasa® 5-Elements supports strength, clarity, and a deeper relationship with internal rhythm and balance. It is a natural next step after Foundations and can also be practiced alongside Foundations for continued learning and integration.
Enrollment note:
Students may join at the beginning of either Term 1 or Term 2. New students to Zenyasa® are encouraged to complete — or concurrently attend — Foundations to support understanding of the method.

Zenyasa® private sessions offer a fully individualized experience, shaped around your unique needs, goals, and energy level each week. Instead of moving through a fixed sequence, we slow down, pause, ask questions, and explore the practice in a way that supports your body and your nervous system.
Together, we work at a pace that feels steady and attentive. There is space to refine alignment, break down challenging transitions, adapt postures to your physical needs, and integrate breath-led movement with greater ease. Over time, we develop a clear understanding of your strengths, patterns, and areas for growth, allowing the practice to evolve with you.
Whether you are new to Zenyasa®, returning to movement after time away, or looking to deepen an existing practice, 1:1 sessions provide focused support, compassionate guidance, and a personalized pathway toward steadiness and embodied strength.

Zenyasa® works because it is a complete, integrated system, not a collection of postures. Every part of the practice—from the opening meditation to the elemental sequences—plays a specific role in helping the body and mind move toward steadiness.
1. A consistent structure that creates safety and clarity
Each class follows a familiar arc:
This repetition builds somatic familiarity and reduces cognitive load, helping the nervous system settle more quickly. With time, the body recognizes the rhythm, allowing ease, presence, and steadiness to arise naturally.
2. Elemental sequencing that strengthens and stretches the entire body
The Five-Element Method organizes movement by muscle groups and meridian pathways, ensuring that over each cycle every major muscle group is strengthened and stretched in a balanced way.
This structure prevents overuse, supports functional strength, and fosters musculoskeletal balance.
3. Slow, intentional pacing that builds strength through awareness—not force
Zenyasa® uses slow, breath-coordinated movement to develop strength, stability, and mobility without strain. Working at this pace deepens interoception, refines technique, and encourages the kind of precision that keeps the practice safe and sustainable.
4. The Three Foundations: Mindfulness, Skillfulness, and Goodwill
These principles anchor the entire method.
Together, these foundations shape not just how we move, but how we relate to ourselves.
5. A balance of structure and flexibility
Zenyasa® blends the reliability of a structured method with the adaptability of mindful practice. Clear frameworks guide the flow, while each student is invited to work at a pace and level that respects their body’s needs. This combination makes the practice both systematic and deeply personal.
The result is a practice that develops strength, clarity, flexibility, emotional steadiness, and embodied awareness—not through force or intensity, but through consistency, attention, and compassionate discipline.
